The land of opportunity has many routes that can be taken! Entrepreneurship is a dream for many people around the world. The idea of starting and running your own business is exciting and inspires creativity and freedom. But, the truth is, it’s hard work. Oftentimes, harder than a regular 9 to 5 job.

For teenagers, this is especially challenging when they must combine school, activities, social commitments, and home life. The toolbox provides 8 practical steps to help teens and parents turn an idea into a real business from making jewelry, walking dogs or something more capital intensive like opening a food truck. The Toolbox also includes examples of ordinary teens who have made the transition into successful entrepreneurship.
The 8 steps include:
1. Set your goal: Learn how to set smart goals and save money

2. Find your idea: Identify a business idea that is fun―and profitable

3. Name your price: Figure out what your product or service is worth

4. Build your business: Create a marketing plan that works

5. Win with customers: Learn the basics of customer service

6. Get organized: Learn how to manage your time, calendar and appointments

7. Make your money work: Create a budget and make smart money decisions

8. Focus on the future: Develop a plan to grow your business
The Toolbox includes additional components:
  •  Teen Portfolio: Explains the eight steps and helps teens understand the importance of each one.
  •  Parent Guide: Gives parents the information they need to help their teen navigate the eight steps. Includes practical ideas for each step in the journey.
  •  DVD: Reinforces the Portfolio with humor and common sense. A twenty-minute video with descriptions of each step from the author.
  •  Goal Tracker: Keeps teens on track by showing visual progress towards their goals.
